Annual Report 2017-18

The 2017–18 Annual Report asks readers to look beyond access and reductions in poverty towards whether people are achieving a better quality of life? Its central argument is that schools, services and opportunities matter only when they produce meaningful outcomes. That perspective runs through the report’s account of DRF’s work and its willingness to measure, learn and change course. A special feature on MITRA makes the idea tangible through small farmers who become trusted sources of agricultural knowledge, using demonstration plots and peer learning to carry practical solutions across villages. Elsewhere, GROW’s second year reveals how core employability skills, assessments, data and aspiration-based job matching began to strengthen the skilling model. The report also captures early steps towards supporting women in science and widening rural entrepreneurship. Read it for a grounded exploration of how access becomes agency, and how individual aspiration can be supported by stronger local systems.
