Annual Report 2016-17

The 2016–17 Annual Report begins with a deceptively simple question: must people trying to solve the same problem continue to walk alone? Through the story of handloom advocate Chandra Jain, it exposes the limits of fragmented effort and introduces Collective Problem Inquiry, DRF’s approach to defining problems sharply, agreeing on success and learning with others. This idea gives the report its structure. Newer initiatives such as GROW, MITRA, PUSHTI, ARITRA and work with first-level health leaders are presented as attempts to combine field knowledge, specialist expertise and partnerships around complex challenges. The report also reorganises DRF’s work into clearer segments spanning child development, youth, family and entrepreneurship, organisational health and the wider social-sector ecosystem. Read it for the thinking behind a major strategic shift. The Foundation’s priority shifted from implementing programmes independently to creating the conditions in which multiple actors can align, experiment and pursue impact at scale together.
