The 2008–09 Annual Report captures a year in which scale was matched by experimentation. Across livelihoods, DRF strengthened partnerships, redesigned curricula and introduced shorter, market-responsive courses while beginning to explore what employment could look like closer to rural communities. Two rural pilots tested a three-part approach spanning wage employment, enterprise and farm-based livelihoods, offering an early glimpse of work that would evolve in later years. The education section moves equally close to the realities of families on the move. Transit Education Centres at construction sites, Residential Bridge Centres and neighbourhood schools sought to reconnect children with learning in ways suited to their circumstances. Stories bring these interventions to life, revealing both the barriers families faced and the possibilities created by support. Read this report to see DRF widening its canvas while holding together two linked ambitions: greater economic agency for young people and more equitable routes into education for children.
