Impact of zero tillage maize production on yield, income, and resource utilization in peninsular India: an action-based quasi-experimental research

In this co-authored research paper, published in Frontiers, colleagues from our Climate Action and Environment team share determinants of the adoption of zero-tillage (ZT) technology in maize production and the impact on yield, income and costs.

The study titled ‘Impact of zero tillage maize production on yield, income, and resource utilization in peninsular India: an action-based quasi-experimental research’ identifies that variables like education, institutional credit adoption, crop insurance, visit of extension agent, landholding size, and prior experience of new technology adoption positively influence ZT adoption. Results show that ZT adoption decreases the overall costs of cultivation by Rs.8376/acre and enhances the yields by 2.53 quintals/acre. A 26.1% higher net return was observed for ZT adopters.
